Many countries all over the world have travel restrictions in place at the moment, in a bid to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

The latest changes in travel restrictions include:

  • Denmark adding England, Northern Ireland and Scotland to its red list although fully vaccinated Welsh residents may still enter Denmark if they have a valid reason to do so
  • Arrivals to the UK from France must self-isolate for ten days – whether they have recieved both vaccine injections or not
  • The UK has placed the Balearics back on the amber list from the 19th of July
  • Bulgaria and Croatia have been added to the UK’s green list
  • The EU Digital COVID certificate (EUDCC) is now being used across Europe
  • The EU has added the US to a lit that recommends countries that may be able to travel to the continent

With restrictions seeming to change on a weekly basis, we round up where you can travel this summer in Europe.

Austria

  • Austria is connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test
  • However, a landing ban for flights from Brazil, India, South Africa and the UK has been lifted, but each country has now been added to the Virus Variant Area list
  • Visitors from these countries will therefore need to register for pre-travel clearance and quarantine for 10 days if not vaccinated
  • Hotels, restaurants and leisure facilities are now open for summer tourism, but entry to all indoor public spaces requires either a negative COVID test or proof of vaccination

Belgium

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test
  • Travel from the UK to Belgium is banned due to the spread of the Delta variant – the excpetion being Belgian nationals and residents
  • Everyone entering Belgium must fill in a passenger locator form 48 hours before the arrive
  • Fully vaccinated arrivals from outside of Europe need to take a PCR Test and quarantine until theyu are presented with a negative result
  • Different PCR test arrangements apply to arrivals from high risk areas, who are also expected to quarantine for 10 days
  • Children travelling to Belgium will be given two free PCR tests in order to encourage family travel

Bulgaria

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test
  • A negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before travel is neccessary for entry
  • Bulgaria has recently added the UK to its list of countries whose residents are prohibvited from arriving into Bulgaria (although this is due for review at the end of July)
  • There are no restrictions on travelling between cities in Bulgaria now, and police-operated checkpoints have now ceased as well
  • Wearing a mask is mandatory in all public spaces and all outdoor spaces where it is not possible to maintain a social distance of at least 1.5 metres – with fines of up to 1000 euros in place for failure to comply

Croatia

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test
  • All passengers coming from an EU/EEA country on the green list are allowed into Croatia as long as they can show a negative PCR test result taken 48 hours before departure, or a vaccination certificate showing 14 days has passed since their second injection
  • If passengers cannot supply either of these then they have to self-isolate for 10 days on arrival into Croatia

Cyprus

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction-free travel across all EU and EEA countries following proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test
  • The country has a colour-coded system in place with requirements for travellers dependent on their location
  • No requirements for a vaccine certificate, but a Cyprus Flight Pass must be obtained in all cases, along with a negative PCR test results for arrivals from orange and red list countries
  • Tourism is open, but there is a curfew in place which restricts movements between 9pm and 5am with face masks being mandatory in all public spaces

Czech Republic

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Travellers must also fill in the Passenger Locator Form and present it upon arrival

Denmark

  • Denmark added England, Nothern Ireland and Scotland to irs red list on 17th of july
  • The country is slowly opening up as they have controlled the virus well. All restrictions are aimed to be lifted by 1st of October
  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Masks are not required outdoors excpet on public transport during rush hour, and for standing passengers
  • Restaurants can serve customers indoors if they have been vaccinated or can show a negative test result

Estonia

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • A 10 day quarantine period is applied if you are arriving from an EU/EEA country with an infection rate higher than 150 cases per 100000 population in the last 14 days
  • Medical symptoms and travel documents are checked at the borders
  • The Estonian government is also looking to waiver restrictions for travellers who have a COVID-19 vaccination certificate

Finland

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • The borders of Finland still remain closed to non-resident foreigh nationals entering the country, with some exemptions for essential travel
  • A 14 day quarantine period is being enforced, with a mandatory health check on arrival also.

France

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Fully vaccinated travellers from the UK are still required to produce a negative test result but no longer have to quarantine and non-essential travel is now allowed
  • Non fully vaccinated travellers from the UK have to isolate for 7 days on arrival
  • There is no longer a curfew and mask wearing is not compulsary outdoors – except in certain circumstances where people gather together when they are in a crowded place

Germany

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Travellers entering the country need to fill out a digital registration form before they travel, and must have proof of a negative COVID test
  • Following talks between Boris Johnson and Angela Merkel, Germany is set to loosed strict travel restrictions which apply to UK citizens

Greece

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Greece has officially launched into toursim season, and so national restrictions have lessened
  • Beaches are open, although people are still expected to socially distance
  • Bars and restaurants can stay open until midnight now, with a curfew in place from 12.30am to 5.30am
  • A PCR Test, EU Digital Certificate or proof of vaccination are required for almost all arrivals
  • All arrivals must fill in a Passenger Locator Form

Hungary

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Since 1st of September 2020, only Hungarian citizens have been allowed to enter the country – although it has now opened its land borders to neighbouring states
  • Foreigners travelling on buisness or to take part in cultural or sporting events are allowed to enter now, as long as they have two negative COVID test results or agree to quarantine on arrival
  • Curfews are no longer in place, and shops and other service providers are now open as normal

Iceland

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • A five day quarantine has recently been introduced for visitors from the UK
  • Curfews have now ended
  • The whole country is colour coded, with the majority of it being in the yellow zone, meaning hotels are open and outdoor dining is allowed
  • Mask wearing is still compulsary in public places

Latvia

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • All arrivals are required to complete and submit an electronic form no earlier than 48 hours before arrival
  • All arrivals must show a negative PCR test result performed no more than 72 hours before flying to be allowed to enter
  • Non-EUDCC arrivals must isolate for 10 days on arrival, even if they recieve a negative test result

Lithuania

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Foreign nationals travelling to Lithuania must complete an online registration form no earlier than 24 hours before they begin their journey
  • A 10 day mandatory quarantine is in place for non-EUDCC arrivals
  • Anyone arriving in Lithuania must present a negative PCR tests no older than 48 hours or agree to be tested at the airport. They are then required to isolate for 10 days

Luxembourg

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Travellers need to show proof of a negatie test or submit to a rapid antigen test at the airport. If they do neither, then they need to self-isolate for 14 days
  • An overnight curfew is in place between 11pm and 6am

Malta

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Malta is operating a traffic light system to determine which restrictions you will be subject to when you arrive
  • All arrivals from countries not on the green list have to present a negative PCR test result no older than 72 hours
  • Visitors from the UK to Malta who have not been vaccinated have to quarantine for 14 days

Netherlands

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • All arrivals must present a negatrive PCR test, no more than 72 hours old and fill in a health decleration form

Poland

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • If you cross ther border into Poland after the 16th of July, you need to fill in a traveller locator form
  • Poland is now allowingg travellers with a COVID-19 vaccination certificate to enter without the need to quarantine, however, if you are unvaccinated then you have to isolate for 10 days

Portugal

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Portugal has recently re-imposed a curfew between 11pm and 5am, due to the Delta variant.
  • Unvaccinated traellers to Portugal have to quarantine for 14 days
  • face masks must be worn in public, and extra hygiene measures and social distancing are in force in all public settings

Romania

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Only essential travel is allowed for people coming from non EU/EEA countries, including the UK

Slovakia

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Visitors also need to register their arrival using an online form

Slovenia

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Slovenia has also adopted a traffic light system with arrivals from red list countries being asked to quarantine for 10 days on arrival

Spain

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • Spain has re-opened to tourists providing they can prove they have been vaccinated agains COVID-19
  • Non vaccinated travellers from the UK must show a negative PCR test result on arrival

Sweden

  • Connected to the EUDCC which allows restriction free travel across all EU and EEA countries following a negative COVID test and proof of vaccination
  • UK arrivals are no longer banned, with the exception of those who do not have proof of a negative PCR test from the previous 72 hours or full vaccination
  • Most of the economy remains open, with social distancing, face masks and extra hygiene measures in force
